Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (an excerpt from the short film on Youtube)

So there’s this part in Chimamanda Adiche’s book “Americanah” where Obinze tells his wife Kosi that he’s no longer interested in the Marriage. Kosi tells him to stop talking by waving her hands in the hair and gets on her knees to beg him.

He still resists and says he’s not interested because he’s falling hard for Ifemelu. Kosi says “is because of that girl you’ve been sleeping around with?,” with so much indifference that it caused tension in the room.
He was surprised. Really surprised that she knew and loathed her.

Man, Obinze are you kidding me😂😂?

You hadn’t touched her in months. You come back smelling of another woman almost everyday and you’re a Lagos big boy moving around the streets of Ikoyi, Victoria island and Lekki with someone that’s not your wife and you think nobody would notice😂. Fr??!!🤥

Okay I’m done yabbing him.

It’s the fact that he loathed her, she just wanted to keep the family together…I mean who doesn’t want the comfort of an ambitious Lagos big boy who minds his business and is so loving.

Anyways, that’s why I like the ending.

Americanah tells the story of a young Nigerian woman, Ifemelu, who immigrates to the United States to attend university. The novel traces Ifemelu’s life in both countries, threaded by her love story with high school classmate Obinze.

If you’ve never read this book, I suggest you do, it’s actually interesting. I really want to see it in a movie with better directors like Kemi Osiberu, Kunle Afolayan and popular igbo director, Tchidi Tchikere.
